NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY ENGINEERS ANNOUNCES NEW VISION, MISSION, AND STRATEGIC PLAN
Washington, D.C. – February 19, 2025 – The National Association of County Engineers (NACE), the voice of local road officials, proudly announces the launch of its new mission, vision, and 2025 Strategic Plan, a comprehensive roadmap designed to advance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the nation’s local transportation infrastructure.
Vision: A robust, reliable, and safe transportation network for all.
Mission: To improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of local infrastructure through advocacy, collaboration, and education of road officials.
The 2025 Strategic Plan focuses on three strategic priorities: Advocacy, Education, and Member Growth and Engagement. Under each priority are key goals that support NACE members in the work they do for their communities. These goals include strengthening partnerships with federal agencies and elected officials, developing agency-specific solutions and resources that drive funding and process improvements, expanding virtual educational offerings–including live webinars and on-demand content, creating leadership development programs to cultivate future leaders, offering member recognition programs to highlight achievements at individual and regional levels, and enhancing educational offerings at the annual conference.
Stephen McCall, P.E., P.S., President of NACE, and Champaign County, OH, County Engineer shared, “Our 2025 Strategic Plan reaffirms NACE’s commitment to its members by empowering local road officials in their mission to deliver safe, sustainable transportation for their communities. Through a strong focus on advocacy, education, and member engagement, we are building a more connected future—one that strengthens the voice of road officials across the nation and strengthens the foundation of our transportation infrastructure.”
The NACE board of directors met during a two-day retreat to review a sixty-four-page report that included feedback from members, corporate partners, nonmembers, and other stakeholders to help guide them in defining the future of NACE. With common themes throughout that report that emphasized advocacy, education, and member growth, this plan aims to equip local road officials with the resources and knowledge necessary to meet the evolving challenges in the communities they serve.
“As NACE charts its course for the future with its new strategic plan, our members have spoken and their message is clear,” stated Kevan Stone, NACE CEO. “With advocacy, education and member engagement as the pillars of this enhanced strategic vision, NACE looks forward with renewed focus to ensure the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of local infrastructure for local road officials and the communities they serve.” Access the full plan here: NACE Strategic Plan. The NACE strategic planning task force was chaired by Wayne Sandberg, P.E., North Central Region VP, and included Jacob Thorius, P.E., President-Elect, Josh Harvill, P.E., Southeast Region VP, Andrew McGuire, P.E., South Central Region VP, and Matt Machado, P.E., L.S., Western Region VP.
The success of this new plan relies on the strength of our volunteers, so we call on our members and stakeholders to get involved. If you are interested in helping to guide NACE’s future by strengthening our advocacy, enhancing education, and driving member growth and engagement please contact us at nace@countyengineers.org.
